Infused Water Love Affair

Thursday, March 26, 2015

In the past few months infused water has become a popular drink in our house.  Hubby does not like plain water which means our refrigerator is usually filled with at least 2 juices and a liter of soda. I have only tasted soda once in my life and the only juice I drink is cranberry which I only have a few times a year.

We live in sunny south Florida which tends to get hot and humid. It is very important to stay hydrated. Infused water is a tasty, nutritional way to stay hydrated. With infused water, there are no recipes, no "right way," it's all about preference.

A few months ago I picked up this Prodyne Fruit Infusion Pitcher from Bed Bath & Beyond. It was $19.99, not bad for all of the use it has already gotten.  I simply add the ingredients to the center column, then add water. I let it sit in the fridge for 3-6 hours or overnight. It stays fresh for up to 3 days. I try to keep a pitcher in our fridge at all times. If I am inbetween making a pitcher but want Hendrix to have some infused water I will add some fruit to the bottom of his sippy cup, mash with a spoon, add water and shake. Some of our favorite combinations are:

Citrus Infused Water
Oranges, peeled and chopped
Lemons, peeled and chopped

Berry Infused Water
Raspberries
Blueberries
Blackberries

Tropical Infused Water
Mango, peeled and chopped
Pineapple, peeled and chopped

Hendrix Favorite Infused Water
Strawberries, chopped
Blackberries
Raspberries
Mint

* Peel citrus fruits in order to avoid a bitter taste.
