Sensory Play- Play Dough

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

This week I decided to make edible play dough. I knew Hendrix would love it and the recipe is so easy!

1/2 cup salt
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 warm water
Food coloring

In a large mixing bowl add salt and flour. Mix together. Slowly add water while mixing and begin kneading dough.

Once fully kneaded, when it is smooth like pizza dough, cut into as many balls as you would like colors. I chose red and blue so I simply cut it in half. Add a couple drops of food coloring.

Knead color into dough. If sticky, continue to add flour. I let the balls rest in flour for about 30 minutes and kneaded again. When ready, give cookie cutters, forks or whatever safe objects you have on hand for baby to play with.

Hendrix played quietly for about 20 minutes before he started to try and feed the dog play dough. That's amazing since he can't sit still for longer then 2 minutes usually. He only tasted one piece before he realized it was gross. Good thing it's only salt, flour, water and food coloring!

I will definitely be making this recipe again until Hendrix doesn't put everything he touches into his mouth. I'm going to keep my eye out for play dough cutters and other play dough toys for him to play with.
